About Us

Ministarstvo prostora (Ministry of Space) conducts research and analyses, develops policies and institutional models, supports community-led initiatives and runs educational programs in the field of democratic urban development and spatial justice. It was formed in 2011 with aim to activate different unused spaces through occupation and/or municipal negotiations and campaign against market-led urban planning and enclosure of public spaces and infrastructure. Over time, other programs were also developed, expanding organizational mission to encourage and facilitate citizens’ participation and mobilization in defending public interest and resources in urban and spatial planning and resource management, creating and supporting spatial commoning practices and advocating for the right to affordable, adequate and secure housing in Serbia. The Ministry of Space has continually worked in collaboration with other local and international organizations, activists and researchers on collective effort to achieve more radical, structural changes in how our cities are organised and led.
