A civic-activist initiative, the Social Housing NOW! [Căși sociale ACUM] campaign seeks to problematize social housing in Cluj, given the context of severe reductions of the public housing stock and the galloping transformation of housing into a real estate commodity during the past decade. Consequently, the existing social housing stock is not only insufficient to cover the needs of residents, but it has also become inaccessible exactly to those who should rightfully occupy it. We contribute to the organization of public actions together with other local groups nurturing solidarity among evictees, renters with low income and others in need of a home at affordable price. Our magazine, The Brick, also serves this aim. Our legal actions and petitions demand actions from the state to respect the right to housing and the right lo live in a healthy environment. We are part of the Romanian national network Bloc for Housing.
